Lasertone, the nation’s leading
woman-owned manufacturer of networked printer supplies,
services, and hardware was founded in 1989 by Nancy Connolly,
President and CEO. Since then, the company has grown from a
two-person, home-based operation to an industry leader with over
70 employees, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, and
national sales and distribution outlets.
Over the past 15 years,
Lasertone’s support of workplace diversity has grown steadily
because we understand it makes good business sense. Our
commitment is reflected in our hiring practices -- 60% of our
employees are either minority or women. We celebrate the
differences among our employees and benefit from the unique
ideas a multi-cultural workforce brings to our business.
Our dedication to diversity extends far
beyond our workforce. We also incorporate diversity into our key
business objectives and marketplace strategies. That commitment
enhances our understanding of the business community and
broadens our marketplace -- and that translates into more
business
A strong commitment to
supplier diversity is a key component of our strategy. We
recognize that women and minority-owned businesses contribute
enormously to the economy. According to the Center for Women’s
Business Research, businesses owned by women or women of color
increased 37% from 1997 to 2002, and today number over 1
million. Supporting minority owned businesses adds value to the
supply chain and enhances each participant’s competitive
position. We believe minority and women-owned businesses must
share the business with each other to:
-
Leverage buying power
-
Grow start-ups into thriving small
businesses by supporting one another and sharing best
practices.
Our belief in share the
business is a core value at Lasertone. Since the inception
of our Supplier Diversity Program in 2001, we increased our
spend with minority and women-owned suppliers from 5% to more
than 10% for the first quarter, 2004, surpassing our goal for
2004.
By tying diversity-marketing
initiatives directly to our strategic business plan, we continue
to develop new markets and share ideas and practices with other
women and minority-owned businesses. Consequently, our
integrated diversity program includes developing strategic
alliances with other minority and women-owned businesses.
Partnering with other businesses allows us to respond more
effectively to competitive bid situations where singly, our
businesses may not have the scope to compete and win.
If we share the business
we will reap the rewards. Doing business with each other helps
us all increase our sales, develop new markets, and enhance our
competitive advantage. Our businesses will become stronger, more
competitive, and more profitable, if we
share the business.
